I have 2-step verification turned on but it still always sends a text?

I have 2-step verification turned on.

  • authenticator app is primary device
  • backup is phone number

Tried logging on, password accepted, authenticator code accepted and then it asks to send a text.

I then removed phone number as backup and it does the exact same thing.

So basically I have 3-step verification (password, authenticator and phone). BUT I want to remove phone from the equation as its useless to me when I am overseas and am not using my phone.

Another Australian paypal user I know does not have a text being sent when he logs in. Why do I?  Should I close down my 20 year old account and start a new one?

Hello @Anonymous_User,

Thanks for posting in the Community!

I'm sorry you're having trouble receiving a security code to your authenticator app. A PayPal account requires a mobile phone number to operate, so deleting your account and starting over wouldn't help. I recommend removing 2-Step Verification completely and then resetting it back up with your authenticator as primary again. If you still do not receive a code to the authenticator app, please contact Customer Support by clicking 'Contact' at the bottom of any PayPal page. Support is also available if you send a DM to @AskPayPal on Twitter or a PM to facebook.com/PayPal

I hope this is resolved quickly!
