I do understand your concern about your account accidentally getting closed. Once you close your PayPal account, it cannot be reopened. But you can open a new account with the same email address. Payments cannot processed to a closed account. If the sender initiated the payment already, it would be in pending or unclaimed status, which can be canceled by the sender. More details about pending or unclaimed payments can be found here. Once you open a new account, you can ask the sender to initiate the payment again.
