I think I've been scammed

Website called <Removed> claimed to be selling Chaco sandals for 70% off so I jumped on it. Everything looked fine until payment through PayPal went through and confirmation was a bunch of Chinese symbols. I couldn't cancel the order and I don't want to wait for them to get to me bc if I end up wanting to return them I have to pay a restocking fee, and shipping and handling fees! Has anyone else had this problem? And why can't I cancel the order/block the website from using my card on PayPal? And if this is a scam will PayPal refund me instead? #scam #fake #fakechacos #chacos #chacossandals

Paypal cover you for non receipt of item or item received but not as described.

They do not cover you sadly for buyer remorse as you bought from a scam China website and any cancellation has to be done via the person you purchased from. Heres how to spot them in the future.

Chinese Web Sites or on Facebook easy to spot (once you know the below signs) so buyer beware.

1. No return address on the returns policy............thats because the site will look as if its in your country (where they despatch goods from) BUT they will ask for returns to go back to China (returns depot) at a shipping cost nearly always more than the item is worth.
2. No contact telephone number............if you click on contact the most you will get is webmail or an email address.
3. No company address information.
4. Great looking items at bargain prices that turn out to be tat.

HOWEVER you may still have the option to do a charge back if you funded your paypal payment via a credit card.
Also Paypal may contribute towards return costs IF you have activated the below link (if available in your country).

I saw an add on on Facebook selling Chacos sandals 60-70% off, called Awesome Sandals or something like that. It was a similar sounding website as yours although slightly different url.  I did receive the two sandals, but the only thing that matched was the size -- not the style, not the colors. One was horrid. The other I could have lived with, except, when tried it on, it was clearly manufactured incorrectly. As a longtime chaco wearer, I'm totally sure that they are real Chacos -- if they are, these are not even fit for Outlet use since the straps didn't fit at all. When I tried to contact them, there was no response. When I was to return them by mail, I double checked the return address and the city and zip do not match, and could not find the company and address on google search. I assume it is a fake return address, maybe preprinted before shipping with UPS.

I did the same exact thing. I saw an ad for chacos on sale and I assumed that the actual website had them on sale for memorial day. Like you, I realized after the fact that it was a Chinese company when my paypal went through to someone with Chinese symbols. I did file a dispute because I thought I got scammed. I was able to respond to my "confirmation order" from the website and told them that I wanted to cancel my order and they said they would do that but I'm not sure if they actually will.

Hope you didn't open one for 'unauthorised' as that is telling paypal you were hacked and someone else made that transaction which you knew nothing about.

How do I open a dispute with a seller when a purchase goes wrong?

You can open a dispute in the Resolution Centre of your PayPal account within 180 days of payment if:
•You don’t receive the item OR service
•You receive an item but it’s significantly different than the description on eBay or on the seller’s website (or you receive a totally different product).

By opening a dispute, you can communicate directly with your seller to work out a problem transaction.

If you reach an agreement with the seller you can close the dispute. If you're still not happy with the result, you can escalate the dispute into a claim. Paypal will review the claim and decide on reimbursement.

These steps apply to Personal accounts. If you have a Business account, please log in to see the steps that apply to you.

To open a dispute:
1.Log in to your PayPal account.
2. Click on the transaction and use the resolve a problem option at the bottom of that details page.

Note:
•Generally buyers must wait at least 7 days from the date of payment to escalate a dispute for an item not received
•Where an item has not been received, please ensure you have given the seller enough time before opening a dispute

Do not close the dispute until you have a refund or your item.
If a seller states that they can't refund until you have closed the dispute don't believe them.
Escalate the dispute to a claim within 20 days (before it times out), if you need Paypal to get involved.

If you lose because the seller provides a fake tracking number then post back here for more advice.
If the item arrives and its not what you ordered / not as described then make sure you change the dispute quickly from non receipt. If the dispute times out before you can change it then contact customer services to open a second dispute for the new reason.

Activate the below link in case you have to return the item at Paypals request (or the correct one for your country as this is the U.S link).

https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/returns

If that does not work then if you funded your paypal payment via a card then contact your card issuer and see if they will issue a chargeback.

Have you found a way to get into contact with the company? I ordered on Friday and emailed three times over the weekend and still nothing on Monday. My confirmation email gives no contact information or an estimated delivery date either. Also, what options do you have through PayPal to claim your money?
