My experience was both horrible and costly. A few days ago, somehow, when I tried to request a payment of $2500 from a buyer on Gumtree, the request went through to a bogus PayPal account created from my email address. It calls me Dominic (first name) O'Brien (middle name) and Photo as my surname. I was told this was impossible as it is not my legal name and you can't send cash advances to yourself. Anyway it deducted the money from my bank account and threw it to -$2500. I contacted PayPal and eventually the money was repaid to my bank. I then got an email saying I owed PayPal $2500. I rang again and was told that it would be resolved in 2 or 3 business days. I found the person I spoke to rude, unhelpful and didn't seem to understand. Anyway that night (Christmas Eve) PayPal took another $2500 from my bank and through it again into the negative. I rang my bank and they said what PayPal had done was fraud and they have started action against you. I have contacted my friends in the media ( I am a professional journalist) and they are beginning an expose on PayPal and have many others with similar complaints. I noticed that while I'm typing this PayPal is still making and taking small deposits in my bank account. I haven't closed the bank account as I want the evidence and PayPal won't let me close either my legitimate or bogus accounts. More that not recommending PayPal to my friends I am taking legal action against you and will be broadcasting your illegal fraud globally, through my media network.
