I found a lens being sold on a photography forum. I commented to ask more information about it. Then I received a personal message from an email stating that they were 'Michael' from Florida (the owner of the lens) and that they could ship it to me. He said 'his wife' would send over the paypal invoice (which was then sent from a mans name, not a woman), but I paid it. I received a notification from Paypal that something was shipped on Tuesday. I asked the seller if they could provide tracking. He said 'I think my wife making a mistake' (wrong English) and that he would ship it today. I asked what the package was that was already shipped, he said 'my wife accidentally send you a package that should be send to another address, no worry, you can accept the package and make it yours' (bad English again). I realized this package was coming from Connecticut and NOT Florida. So I reached out to the person who made the original post on the forum and asked if this email was in fact his. He responded that this was Not his email and that he already sold the lens to someone else! So the person I have been emailing is NOT the real Michael and does NOT own the lens! I just received the sellers suspicious package today - and it was a thin package smaller than an envelope with two half dollar Libre coins inside!! I took photos of Everything and sent it to Paypal.
I've escalated it to a claim and got Paypal involved. But they didn't seem to have even looked at my story or my photos of the tiny package or our conversations I've sent them. Instead they told me I must ship the package back to the address specified in the dispute: THAILAND. This is Obviously a 100% scam. Why am I being asked to return this item to THAILAND when they shipped it from Connecticut!? Isn't that going to take forever? And is that expensive? Will this even be all over once I ship it back to Thailand? Does Thailand accept Libre coins or will it be held up in customs? The seller has to 'confirm that they have received the item' before I can get a refund. Couldn't they just lie again? What can I do?? No doubt this is a scam, why isn't Paypal seeing this? I have a huge pit in my stomach. I will be out $730 if this does not get resolved. Do I need to get my credit card company involved? I have been a loyal upstanding customer of Paypal for So many years, yet I can't even seem to get onto a real person at Paypal and I'm scared now, please help.
