Hello everyone,
I was just defrauded by a PayPal user called Timothy <removed> of East Tamworth when buying from Gumtree.
He asked me to bank transfer him (using Pay ID) a portion of the payment in a sign of good faith before using PayPal buyer protection to complete the transaction. His reason for requesting this was because in the past he'd sold an item, the buyer claimed they'd never received them, then he never got his money from PayPal.
Is this how buyer protection works? Do PayPal hang onto the money until the buyer says the item is received? Or do they pass funds on immediately and then claw money back only if there's fraud proven in favor of the buyer?
Thanks,
