I'm trying to setup paid subscriptions in VBulletin 3.8.5. I've setup paid subscriptions on my forum using VBulletin 3.8.5 using the guide posted here. http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?255511-Paid-subscriptions-not-working-Check-these-things I was able to go through the checkout and noticed the payment was completed on paypals end. My notification URL is http://www.wptavern.com/forum/paymen...?method=paypal with IPN enabled. The IPN history page shows the transaction that occurred but the status is FAILED. Inside of the log file for Vbulletin, it also says failed. vb_error_code authentication_failure Not sure if this helps anyone trying to help me but in looking at more details regarding the transaction, I noticed PayPal reported a 503 server response error. Message ID 1FH17896U4493652A Date/time created 5/7/2010 09:01 PDT Original/Resent Resent Latest delivery attempt date/time 5/7/2010 09:01 PDT Notification URL http://www.wptavern.com/forum/paymen...?method=paypal HTTP response code503 Delivery status Failed No. of retries 0 I went through the paid subscription process and actually purchased one the other day. I received notifications from paypal that a recurring payment had been created and that payment was successful. However, the user account I used to purchase the subscription was never automatically promoted to the VIP membership user group. Also, within my IPN history, it continuously says the message has failed. Also, the transaction log in Vbulletin also states a failure with the error code authentication_failure. So I think the problem is, Vbulletin is not receiving any communication from PayPal regarding the purchase and thus, is not properly moving the users to their paid subscription user group as is the purpose if this feature. 503 error is sometimes normal and that Vbulletin or Paypal will retry numerous time. They have, and they have all failed. How in the world do I figure out if this is a Vbulletin issue, a PayPal issue, or an issue with my Webhost? By the way, I have confirmed that Curl is enabled on my webhosting server.
