Dear all, I recently won an auction on eBay for a 630euro item + 30euro postage which I immediately paid for through the eBay PayPal purchase option. The funds went through and I was notified by my bank. Upon receiving the notification the seller immediately contacted me asking if he could reimburse the money I paid and if I wouldn't mind paying him directly through the PayPal site for the item instead, claiming that he would receive the money immediately this way rather than have to wait 30 days to receive it from eBay. I found this odd and asked him politely to proceed with the transaction through eBay and that I was not comfortable going directly through PayPal. His immediate response was to reimburse the money paid and told me he would cancel the purchase and that I am wrong in not trusting him and that I am completely covered if I paid him through PayPal. After a few more messages back and forth, seeing as he did not want to receive any negative feedback, he sent me a new invoice directly to my PayPal account requesting 590euros (discounted from 650euro) as compensation for not going through eBay. His feedback is quite good, 100% positive at around 90 counts, so my question to you is do I proceed with the deposit and if yes am I covered if I do not receive the item as described or not at all, or do I go with my gut feeling and take this whole thing as a scam.
Thank you for your time, Nicolas
