I recently purchased an item online in July for one of my clients, a one-day event insurance policy. (I'm a wedding planner.) The insurance company used PayPal for their payment gateway, and I used my business Amex to make the transaction. (I was planning to bill her later on her final invoice from me.) I was required to put the insurance policy in the client's name, let's call her Jane Doe. Now in September, I used the same credit card to purchase some anniversary cards from an independent retailer to send to clients, and he swiped my business Amex. He knows me personally, and when the transaction went through, he looked down at his phone and said, "How come your purchase is showing up as Jane Doe?" which is obviously not my name. Why would PayPal be transmitting someone else's name from an unrelated transaction with my credit card? Shouldn't a swiped card only be reading off the card itself? Community, I look forward to your thoughts and musings. If anyone from Paypal is here, please fix this because I'm sure my client would not want her name associated with every business card transaction I may make going forward. What if I have a bacherlorette party client and have to buy supplies for that, using Paypal, and her name comes over on some R-rated site? Just a theory but it could happen!
