I sold some R12 refrigerant on eBay for $410. My listing stated "free shipping". The winning buyer paid instantly. My local USPS office could not ship it after telling me they could. I couldn’t ship with any other carrier because I do not have any Haz Mat certification. I explained all this to the buyer. No problem he said I’m in that business and have all the proper certifications. I’ll create a pickup label with UPS and they’ll be at your location tomorrow to pick it up. He also asked me to refund his shipping cost because it was listed as free shipping, of course I did, it was only $15 which seemed extremely inexpensive to me. UPS picked up just as promised. A few days later he filed a claim against me with eBay because he had not received the item. I provided ebay with pictures of the pickup receipt and a tracking number. I explained to eBay that since he paid for and arrange shipping it was his responsibility to have provided proper shipping insurance. I could not ask UPS to do anything, the tracking number showed it was picked up from my location. eBay decided in my favor and closed the case. Then he filed a claim against me with PayPal for an item not received. I explained all this to PayPal and provided pictures of the pickup receipt, a screen shot from the closed eBay case and the tracking information showing it was picked up at my location. PayPal decided in his favor and took the $410 from my account. I appealed the decision explaining again that the buyer paid for and arranged shipping and there was proof the item was picked up from my location and this situation was out my control. I also found out that UPS issued a check to the buyer for the lost shipment. So now the buyer has $410 from me and a check for some amount from UPS. PayPal again ruled in the buyers favor. How can this be possible? It seems to defy all logic. Someone please explain.
