Last week I received an email supposedly from Paypal notifying me that my March statement is ready. Being that Paypal had never contacted me about a monthly statement being ready it got me suspicious so I started studying the link in the email then I discovered the links pointed to: https://epl.paypal-communication.com/......................., a clear sign of something's fishy going on. What is most alarming about this email was that it addressed me by my full name instead of the usual dear customer or sir etc. I promptly forwarded that email to Paypal (spoof @ paypal_dot_com) and had only gotten a couple of automated replies thanking me for submitting the suspicious email. Now normally that will be good enough since most of the time these phishing emails are so obviously fake that I don't need Paypal to confirm their authenticity but this one came from a source that had my full name so to me it feels like more of a personally directed attack than just a normal generic phishing email. The obivous way I can think of anyone having both my full name and my Paypal account is from ebay where both pieces of information are given to anyone you buy from or sell to. Can anyone share their experience on this? This is the first time I received a "directed" phishing email but I suspect that I am not the special and other must have had similar experience. To Paypal, not sure if they monitor this board but it would be good idea to get back to people who submitted phishing emails to let them know whether the email submitted was in fact fraudulent and not just sending out automated emails which tells nothing of use.
