The guy I was buying from wanted cash. Cash does not cost anything and he wanted the £10 cash up front in hand in person. I hand him £10 then this cash would not involve anyone in the middle ever coming along and deducting any kind of money at all ever. I could not get to him face to face and asked if I could transfer the money to him. I could have done this via BAC's which would have meant that I would have sent him £10. He would have received £10. There would have not been any reduction in the amount of money he would have received. The bank would have not asked for a percentage of that £10. He would have received £10 in full. I instead asked him if I could send it via PayPal and I would pay for the fees as that provided me with the option of getting a little protection. He agreed. I wanted to send him £10 so that he received £10 as he wanted £10 and no less. The process did not offer me any way of working out how much I needed to cover over the £10 so that he received the £10. The service charges normally the seller yes but in this situation I needed to cover the arrangement as this was not the way he wanted to receive the money. How difficult is this scenario to understand? I'd love to come along to your car boot and pay for something using PayPal and just say to your face - no you pay for the fees, it's always been that way.

I'm not sure you understand, if you were selling something as an individual (NOT A BUSINESS) and you offered something for £10. Then I'd expect to pay £10 if I turned up at the door and gave you money. However, if I suggested that I send you money via PayPal then you'd still want £10 for the item, it doesn't just magically get cheaper. They did not suggest I used PayPal, I suggested it.

@kernowlass So you're selling something on GumTree or Facebook Market Place and want to sell an item for £10. You would be quite happy for me to come along and give you £10 but expect you to pick up the tab for the fees? That makes absolutely no sense at all and I think it would be completely unfair of me to expect you to cover these costs.

Can't seem to find an answer to this question. If I want to buy something from someone unknown to me and wish to keep the buyer protection (I know it's default) what fee do I need to add so that my buyer gets the correct money? ie. John wants £10 for his item. Sending £10 to john@example .com with Buyer Protection doesn't show me the amount of money John will receive after fees have been taken or how much Buyer Protection will cost. I need to make it so that John receives £10 but it's clear as mud on the payment screens. *John is an example name 🙂 Many thanks

I have tried to pay for something in instalments and got offered a 6 month or 12 month plan with 0%APR. Went to click to buy and the next page on PayPal told me that they couldn't offer me that deal. I don't understand why as I have an impeccable finance history (Credit score of 999 on Experian and 507 on clear score) I also have had no issues with PayPal and my account is up to date with regular activity so I'm a little shocked.
The message I received on screen was:
We're sorry, we can't offer you PayPal Credit at the moment.
Please select another funding source to complete your purchase.
I have had no communication as to why that decision was reached.
The only thing that I can think of is that it is under a business account type. I actually had forgotten this when I closed the business down and updated eBay (but forgot about PayPal). Could this be the reason?
I have no other PayPal account and my personal debit card is registered as the payment option on this account so I can't go off just setting up a new one (plus I'd like to keep my account history) so downgrading back to personal seems like the only option.
I'm wanting to purchase a Christmas gift so time is of the essence.
I tried calling PayPal directly but after stating what I wanted to the automated service I got put through to a department message telling me that the department is now closed and is only available today during the time I called. <- that was not a typo. The service told me it wasn't open now but stated a time that it was open which was now and should be open for another 5 hours???
Can anyone suggest how I get through any of these problems?
Many thanks
James
