I encountered this exact problem this weekend. I discovered it needed to update when I logged in at 9am on Saturday morning, by 3pm my device was completely flat (not great, I was at a very busy comic con). I charged it fully overnight at our hotel and got going again on Sunday. By 11am I was on 50% battery and discovered I had to completely close the app on my ipad to get the card reader to sleep (which was not easy, pressing the power button once didn't seem to work every time). Also the app was a little temperamental and could sometimes stall when opening meaning that my customers had to wait up to 5 minutes to pay for their purchases. A simple solution would be to just roll back the recent update and send out a new one once these bugs are fixed.
