PayPal has just changed the way its automatically generated emails frame the receipt of orders from a connected web store: instead of saying 'Notification of payment received' or 'Payment received from ...' it now says 'Money is waiting for you' like some Facebook ad spam. I'm surprised by how uncomfortable it makes me. I know the old language was mechanical and stiff, but that comes across as authoritative, neutral and trustworthy as well. Also, the switch of focus from a payment for a product to money received personally (when this is a business account and it is not my money) makes me regard these emails reflexively as a problem and not a simple notification. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but in the meantime I'll squirm and wish the excerpt selection of the emails did something useful like preview a total without opening the email.
