I was paying for a deposit for a VRBO place in Italy. I was given the option to convert the payment from Euros to US dollars or have my credit card company pay in euros and do the conversion which I thought i had read was a better option. My credit card does not charge a "foreign transaction fee". After making the payment (option 2 usind my credit card) the payment in Euros was higher than the stated fee and higher than the US dollar fee. For example. The deposit was approximately 300 Euros which converted to about $366 (US dollars). After making the payment I was sent an email saying I paid about 400 Euros. Was I assessed a higher conversion rate by my credit card company? Help?
