I sold a laptop on Craigslist and a man that claimed to be stationed abroad in the military texted me saying that he would pay double the price if I expressed shipped it to a buddy of his in New Jersey as soon as possible. He asked me to use Paypal and I recieved two official-looking emails, one which stated that the buyer had paid and that the funds would be released when I provided a tracking number through a link in the email. Well, I paid to ship the laptop at UPS the next day ($40) and I typed in the tracking number in the email that had been provided. Now, it's been four days and there are no pending funds in my account or anything. The package should have arrived today. I feel so stupid because I think I just gave someone a free laptop with $40 shipping out of my own pocket. I did some research, and I read that this may be a scam. Is this true? If so, is there anything I can do about it or should I just take this as a lesson?
