On Friday late evening I was woken up to an alert on my phone saying I had purchased a mobile phone for £600. I hadn't done it so immediately knew somebody had gained access to my account somehow. I sent a message to the buyer advising that I had not bought this phone and asked them to cancel the transaction. I then contacted eBay and PayPal, very difficult at 11pm to get through. I went through everything that happened with both of them and was asked to change my passwords and secret questions etc which I did. PayPal said they would investigate the unauthorised transaction. In the morning I received an email saying that it was not an unauthorised transaction! I again rang PayPal I went through everything again. They said it would be reviewed. They came back a few hours later with the same response. Surely if I have not bought an item or authorised anybody to do this then it is unauthorised? eBay in the meantime have said that it is fraud so have removed the item from eBay. This leaves me in an impossible position as I am £600 out of pocket with no support from PayPal and I can't even raise an item not received case as eBay have now removed the item. It seems very underhand to me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I can't sleep with worry at the moment. My account has been compromised once and with no help from PayPal could this happen again???
