Thanks There is a holding period for every payment that you are receiving in your paypal account. Main purpose of this holding period is that, this platform was design to protect both the buyer and the seller. To protect both side, paypal is holding the money for several days giving extra time for the seller to deliver the goods or service to the buyer. The seller needs to, at least, secure some proof of referrence that he does his job (deliver the service of the item sold). If within the holding period, paypal received a complaint from the buyer saying that she haven't receive the service or the item she have paid for, then paypal will look into details of the transaction and a case will be open between the seller and the buyer while paypal is still on hold of the fund. Paypal will get back to the seller and will ask for the proof of delivery like tracking number etc. Once proven that the seller provided the service or delivered the item successfully, after deep analysis and found out that the seller is entitled to receive the payment, Paypal will close the case and let both parties know that the fund will be deposited to the sellers account. On the contrary, a case that ended up in favor to the buyer and there was no clear proof that the seller did her part, Paypal will close the case letting both parties know that the fund will be deposited back to the buyer's account. Another scenario is, what if there are no claims on both sides? There are, I guess 3-5 working days, holding period for any payment that has been made via paypal. If Paypal have heard no complaint arises within that course of time, the fund will automatically be credited to the account of the receiver after the holding period has taken place. In your case, you've mentioned that the money you have received is supposed to be a gift, but I think it falls to the same holding period if it was sent to you as a payment. There are other possible reasons that you may wanna look up to like if they use a card, most likely their card is already expire or what not, they might be needing to check with their card provider. Another factor is, since you've mentioned that you have just created this account, if your account email is not yet confirmed then you need to confirm it first. To confirm your account, you will be needing to attach a mastercard or visa card to your Paypal account, and that card must have a balance on it because Paypal will check your card if it is an active card. You will see some deductions on your card made by Paypal for verification purposes. Don't worry about the deduction because it will be credited back to your card within the next 24-48 hours. I hope this helps to all starters who are asking the same questions. Thank you.
