I have sold on eBay for many years but have just now encountered my first PayPal dispute/claim. A person bought something relatively expensive (for my recent sales ($150)) on eBay under a "no returns" policy listing. He wrote after receipt to say the item was not compatible with his computer, could he return it. If he had filed a return request on ebay, I would have immediately accepted the return for a refund in order to avoid the unresolved dispute demerit. Since he asked in a message, however, I said sorry no, he could/should have checked the model number for compatibility before purchase. Still, if he filed an eBay return request I would accept. But he filed a PayPal dispute under the guise that the item doesn't work and immediately escalated it to a claim. So... What are the effects of disagreeing with the claim (i.e. by providing a copy of his first message where theproblem was his fault)? Have I already earned an ebay demerit for this paypal claim? Thank you to all with the time and inclination to provide a response!
