I sell used expensive designer jackets this time of year and for the most part have had no problems. However, last year I made 3 separate sales to brand new accounts in NY and within 2 weeks disputes were open in PayPal from each one claiming it was an unauthorized transaction. The cases were resolved through PayPal and I did not lose any money because of seller protection fortunately.
Just now someone bought a $700 item, brand new ebay account created today, and in NY. PayPal name and address matches ebay account and it's a confirmed address, but after last year's issues, I am suspicious because all of those were also confirmed addresses. A little while later the buyer sent me a message asking me NOT to use signature confirmation so it will just be left on the porch. My listing states that I use signature confirmation for all sales for my own protection. Also last year, I had an INR dispute opened for the ONLY item I sent without signature confirmation (Also to NY).
All of this seems suspicious to me, but as a seller, I believe I am required to follow through with the transaction and ship the item. I do have a call into PP to ask their advice but there is a 2 hour wait.
