Update: I submitted a tech support ticket about this issue here: https://www.paypal-techsupport.com/app/ask and they did fix my account, so now people can pay with credit card without being forced to create a PayPal account.   So, I really don't know what's going on. Either the PayPal support person I spoke to was misinformed or lying, though I'm not sure why anybody would do that. ... View more

Thanks @JustDuckyDesign for the clarification. Unfortunately the woman I spoke to made it very clear that guest checkouts were no longer supported for personal/business accounts, and that only Payments Pro would be eligible for guest checkouts. When I asked why the PayPal website and docs say otherwise, she stated that they hadn't been updated yet. So either she was misinformed or straight up lying to me.   In any case, I submitted a support ticket via the link that @sharpiemarker provided, and low and behold they fixed the issue for my account in less than an hour. So that's good... ... View more

Thanks, @sharpiemarker, I just submitted a ticket. Hopefully the woman I spoke to who said that Guest Checkout requires a Payments Pro acccount is just totally wrong about that, though that in and of itself is troubling. ... View more

No more Guest Checkouts, unless you're on Payments...

I was recently notified by a customer that Paypal was forcing customers to sign up for a Paypal account during guest checkout, despite the fact that my Business account settings are set to allow guest payments by credit card without requiring a paypal account.   Seems like many people have been reporting this issue, as seen in this thread: /t5/About-Business/PayPal-forcing-customer-signup/m-p/1141361#U1141361 Interestingly, many posters there were told by Paypal that it's a bug they are trying to fix.   But I just got off the phone with Paypal customer service, and the lady there told me that it's a recent policy change, that guest checkout will only be allowed with Payment Pro accounts! ($30/month).   No warning from Paypal, no notifications, even their online documentation has not been updated whatsoever.   I already send thousands of dollars every year to Paypal in payment fees; now I have to pay $30/month for the privilege. Great.   It seems too outrageous to be true. Yet the woman I spoke with at Paypal customer service told me exactly this in no uncertain terms.   ... View more

I just got off the phone with a Paypal rep after I was notified of the same issue of forced Paypal signup for guest credit card checkouts. The lady told me that Paypal has changed their policies and will now only be allowing guest credit card checkout for Payment Pro accounts, which costs $30/month!   This is outrageous to me for two main reasons: First, I already give Paypal thousands of dollars per year in transaction fees, now I have to pay $30/month for this privilege?   Second, this major change of policy seems to have been implemented silently with NO warning or notification. I only became aware of this issue when a client notified me. Additionally, none of Paypal's documentation has been updated to reflect the new policy, which the rep was aware of. This is so unprofessional it makes my head explode.   This is so crazy, I can't understand why Paypal would do this. They're going to lose millions in transactions fees when people like me migrate to a different payment gateway. ... View more
