Actually, I've reviewed my transaction history carefully. For every payment I've received there is a line item, "seller protection", showing a deduction from every payment received for that service. Whereas, there are zero transaction or "seller" fees. PayPal evidently makes its profit from the unadvertised fees for this obligatory service. Clearly every business has to have a business model that works. However, personally, I find it unethical to advertise free buying and selling, but not advertise that the seller protection is an obligatory fee that you must pay. I'd prefer that, like eBay, PayPal is open about the % of your total sale that they will take. Both companies bundle protection for the buyer into their fees. However, eBay is open about the cost of doing business through them. PayPal isn't. Thus, my indignation. Thank you for insightful comments, though.
