I'm foaming at the mouth about this issue. We enable 2-factor authentication so that our Paypal account is more secure, but then depending on where we log in (i.e. what store we're buying from) we get a seemingly random choice from a neverending bucket of login screens, some of which will direct to the 'Send SMS' screen, and some of which will just punt you back out in an infuriating loop. Try using Ebay and Paypal together? Should be a dream but it's a nightmare. Seems to work fine on desktop where you can link the accounts and it doesn't even ask for auth when you pay, but if you're using the Ebay mobile app or in a mobile browser, you simply can't pay for your purchases. Every so often you'll get a screen that suggests you add the security key onto the end of your password, but offers no means of aqcuiring a key. The last part of most transactions I make online is through Paypal and it invariably causes the good UX experience to screech to a halt and I end up swearing at my screen. So what do I do? Disable 2-factor auth, making my account less secure but making mobile transactions at least possible? I'm yet to see an implementation of 2-factor authentication that doesn't ruin experience, but this is by far the worst and most infuriating.
