Same issue for me. Through some considerable trial and error I've figured out Paypal have changed the allowable characters for passwords. Two of the characters in the password I'd previously had are no longer available...so every time I tried to change it, I got the 'something went wrong'. Be sure your new password has letters and numbers and only !@#$%^&*() instead of anything more creative. It's a little annoying - the 'We're looking out for you' prompt that initially told me I needed to change my password made it sound like a security related issue rather than what's probably a change on their backend.
