At any rate, I go straight to the website and check it out! Today I recieved an email saying paypal send me $257.00, click this link to find out more. First of all I know paypal sent me nothing. They can't unless I go in and request it. Further more there is no transaction for that amount. The balance is still zero. What fools! ... View more

Unfortunately paypal nor craigs list can be a "watch dog" looking for scam artists. Neither one of them can afford to and to keep up with the latest scams would be impossible for anyone. The only thing either one of them can do is warn us of the various known techniques scam artists use. On the other hand, places like ebay require buyers to submit bank account information about them just to utilize the sight. ... View more

If I openned a paypal account just because of that one transaction I would definately close it. If you don't you will have to keep an eye on it so you know whether money was deposited or not. If the money gets deposited you would not have to do anything more than wait for the dispute to be filed and the money returned to the scam artist. These kinds of transactions work for these people because people never figure out it's a scam untill they are without the item and without the money. Amaizing. Good luck to you! ... View more

So true indeed. Unfortunately people new to the  online market place don't know this. People make mistakes. It is the shame people feel that keeps them from saying anything about their experience. They don't realise a million other people have made the same mistake before. The people who pull this stuff pray on new commers and shame in that order to cover their tracks. ... View more

I am sure the email "from paypal" is a fake. Our banks, credit cards, ebay and anything else we use to control our cash flow continuously remind us to always go into their website ourselves using the address bar. I have had a few of these come to me as well. Finding out the email was wrong according to my account online I contacted the company. They confirmed my suspicions. Thank goodness they cared enough to help me learn about on line security. Never fill out the stupid form included in the email. Paypal will never ask you to give any personal information in the email they send you and any links sent  via an email are not legitimate sites. Stay safe. Good job of researching! ... View more

Unfortunately this must work enough to make the scam go on. This is why many my age won't go near the internet. They've heard so much about crime via email, viruses and scams they won't trust their insticts enough to make it worth it to them. Did you know many won't do online banking because asking for access to their account information puts it on the the internet, not just asking for access? I have to explain the difference to them. ... Looks like thier English has gotten a little better. I am convinced this scheme works for them. Craigs list has a warning page that simply lists "shipping" in  a list types of scams. I'm supprised craigslist doesn't care! They don't have a forum. ... View more

These people are banking on our being ignorant of paypal's terms and conditions, or signing up quickly because they did what every crook already knows. Greed and fear rank at the top of the list for persuading  us to do something we wouldn't normally do. Also, just as a side note about all of this, paypal and my bank are two of the few sites that won't let me automatically sign in by placing a cookie on my computer. So I treat my paypal information just about the same way I treat my bank information. Then there is the story about the address. What I was selling is locked behind a security gate that is monitored by people. When I told this to the scam artist he wasn't equipped to handle that situation. He said his shipper would take care of all that. What shipper?! How exactly do we hook up when your "shipper" would only have an address of where its at? I'm getting tired of having to think like a crook to stop crooked activity! I bombard these people with the same insulting sentence in about 15 replys in the hopes I help their server to cave in and go down in a blaze of glory. ... View more

Whether or not this scammer got this item they were going to file a dispute. Let them. You don't have to do anything except leave the money there, no matter what. In the meantime scour the terms and conditions of paypal. You'll be fine. Just don't give your paypal information to anyone you don't know, EVER! ... View more

Never do business with anyone you don't meet face to face and get cash in hand. There are warnings in Craigs list not to do business with a third party, Paypal  has no idea the item was delivered so the money can easily go back to the sendern no matter what the seller says. The "buyer" will file a greevance so let him do that. Keep your $2000 item and sell to someone locally only! ... View more
