On Tuesday, October 30, 2012, PayPal MasterCard Services called asking if I had charged two payments of $64.49 USD to APL*APPLE ITUNES STORE 866-712-7753 CA. I replied that I did not, and was instructed to destroy the credit card. Also, I was informed that I would net be held responsible for the charges. For good measure, I telephoned Apple’s iTunes Store fraud department and alerted them of the fraudulent purchases, for which they stated I would be refunded. Here is where it gets interesting. Two days later I received an e-mail from PayPal stating I had made two identical purchases, and that “We used money from your backup payment method to cover the full amount of the transaction(s). The same day, I sold a lamp on eBay for a net amount of $23.97. PayPal listed one of the $64.49 purchases, which, according to Apple iTunes was for a mini-calculator application in this e-mail. When I logged on to my PayPal account, much to my dismay, two purchases determined to be fraudulent by PayPal MasterCard Security Services, has simply been rolled over to my debit card, on file with “PayPal, your most secure way of conducting online purchases.” see: Date When an icon appears next to one of your transactions, it means there is more information available or a note attached. I have since disconnected my bank account and all external credit cards from my PayPal account, simply on the principle that you are not trustworthy. Tell Mr. David Marcus to stop going to visit family in France and begin trying to remediate his company’s severe difficulties within the United States. Sincerely, James Robert Kinney, Ph.D.
