I decided to formally resume use of my maiden name this year. I was divorced 6 years ago. I have now attempted to make the change with Paypal 3 times. I have uploaded the following starting back 2 weeks ago: my divorce decree from NY, my new driver's license, my new social security card, my birth certificate. The "compliance" dept. has advised me that I still need a thing called a legal name change form. In NY, there is no such thing when you resume use of your maiden name. There is a stipulation within the divorce decree - usually found at the end - that states both parties can resume use of their surname. Basically, this is your legal name change authorization. From Paypal yesterday: According to the divorce decree documents that you have provided, there was no reference in the decree to your name reverting to your name change. As such, our compliance department has determined that the Divorce Decree cannot be considered valid for the actual change of your name. What we are requesting is the document of the actual legal name change from your formerly married name to your maiden name supported on the other documents you have provided. I am now fighting to get my name changed with Paypal. Would it be easier just to close out my account which I have had for almost 12 years? This is above ridiculous! The government changed my name back without any trouble and Paypal acts like I need a lawyer just to get my money out. I sell every day on eBay and this is driving me crazy not to be able to access my money into my own accounts. It's robbery! Thanks for any advice.
