The problem is that unlike competing services, there is NO SUPPORT, - when you need it. There is this bullletin board where Paypal should be monitoring but obviously they aren't or some questions would get answered. I was at a show over the week end and dealers were encountering disastrous problems which I summarised on these boards: Anyone know why my application keeps crashing at the CONFIRM PAYMENT screen on my HTC G2 on T-Mobile please? Done it 5 times and is playing havoc with my trading here at the show for which I originally got the Paypal Here facility. Have lost NUMEROUS sales by now!! Everyone else here is using Square and everyone's payment are going through just fine! (Bit of a disaster at the moment. Am at that show and stupidly tried calling Paypal and was put on interminable hold. Not exactly funny) And I got no response. Whatsoever. Other dealers who were a bit more naive were led a dance on wild goose chases to supposed on-line "chat" reps who obviously don't exist: Which (computers) can give completely irrelevant wrong answers to any number of questions followed always by suggestions to call in to numbers which don't answer and (while you are desperately trying to get a transaction processed) leave you on indefinite hold! Yes, while there was a lull in trading, I did try to call in a few more times just to make sure that you DO get put on indefinite hold before I make this accusation and yes, I was always put on indefinite hold. So I did my own bit of naivety: I followed stupid suggestions to email in a question, thinking that if there is no online chat assistance (I didn't believe that there was any) and no proper numbers of people answering telephones, Paypal must have at least someone who can answer an e-mailed in question: What a laugh! Paypal must be in hysterics that anyone could have been as naive as I was! Obviously no one responds! A day or so later, I received a clearly computer-generated message sending me around in even more circles telling me to call in with this type of problem. Here is a solution to anyone else who has this problem. There is a problem with the software Paypal uses. Which is probably why they lead you in wild goose chases on this one! All other on line payment systems were working. It seems the software cant process the signature properly in some types of buildings. This isnt entirely practical but when I was able to use it, it worked for me: Process the whole transaction by wherever you are (your shop/booth/table etc) and then run outside the building to an open air space at the CONFIRM PAYMENT stage. You have to run or the signature will disappear, but the software can't process the necessary data transfer inside buildings, whether you are doing it over WiFi or 3g. If Paypal continue to refuse to acknowledge this problem with their software, take comfort in the fact that if you need to process on line transactions, none of the other methods have this kink in their system.
