Not sure whether this information is (or can be made) available to the public, but would anyone know how exactly PayPal's investigations stage works? The reason why I want to know is because I recently purchased an item through eBay (with PayPal) that I later discovered was a counterfeit (after receiving the item). The seller, however, has gone MIA. No response to my messages, and their eBay account has been deactivated. I've opened a resolution case against the merchant, but I am worried that they've deleted their PayPal account and removed all financial information. Or, even worse, they're part of a bigger international operation that sells counterfeit goods on eBay, which I've read about before, and is unable to be traced back by PayPal's Investigations Unit. I'd like to know if there's any chance I could get my funds back, and if there is, how PayPal's investigations stage works so I can be assured there are still ways to hold the seller accountable.
