I made an expensive purchase the other day on eBay and after winning the auction eBay directed me to Pay Pal to pay for the item. After logging onto Pay Pal I noticed that they had as my default method of payment my checking account. I don't keep large amounts of money in my checking account, AND my chosen default method of payment was my Pay Pal Plus credit card. After changing the default from my checking account (don't know how my checking account had become my default payment method as I did NOT choose that) back to my Pay Pal credit card I went ahead and paid for the item I had purchased. Low and behold on Monday I was notified by my bank stating that Pay Pal had attempted to withdraw the purchase amount from my checking account, making me substantially overdrawn! I opened a case with Pay Pal immediately (yesterday) to try and find out what had happened, and I was dismissed (this morning around 6:30AM) by a clerk saying that I had chosen that method of payment and that Pay Pal would not do a credit reversal with my bank nor would they charge my Pay Pal credit card with the amount owed. Furthermore he stated that Pay Pal would make another attempt to withdraw the funds from my bank account and if that didn't clear, they would then charge one of my back up credit cards. I told the clerk AGAIN that there is nowhere near the amount of money in my checking account to cover the amount of the purchase and to please just charge my Pay Pal account, he said that he could not do that. So now I am out a substantial amount of money because of the fees the bank charges for insufficient funds. Those fees will be charged times 2 because of the 2 attempts pay Pal will make to withdraw funds from my account, an account that they know can not possibly pay the amount owed. All I want is for them to notify the bank reversing the charges and then go ahead and charge my Pay Pal credit card for the entire amount. Apparently this is an impossible task for them. I called Pay Pal credit card and they said that they did not handle those claims, and then they connected me with the department that supposedly does handle these disputes. That line was very bad, the volume low and the person speaking kept breaking up. It was impossible to carry on a conversation to discuss this situation. I am so angry at this point. I was DISMISSED, the clerk just kept repeating the same things over and over again, there was no record on line of my having opened a dispute and just trying to navigate the Pay Pal website trying to find the appropriate people to contact is a nightmare. I will no longer use eBay or Pay Pal because of this total lack of responsiveness to customer complaints, the dismissive attitude of their representatives, the difficulty navigating their website, their endless phone menus, and the list goes on and on... I am a relatively new customer on eBay and was greatly enjoying the experience, in spite of suspected evidence that shill bidding seems to be a problem, but after this experience I no longer want to buy on eBay nor use their credit card. Any company that values their customers so little doesn't deserve to have ANY customers! I've found there are many other auction sites on the web that charge substantially less in fees and provide a much better shopping experience. Pay Pal get it together! Your customer service is abominable, your website stinks, and your telephones apparently don't work! Is this any way to run a company???
