I am becoming more and more disillusioned with Paypal. Today, I get an email stating I need to change my password because of some 'suspicious' activity. (I had logged in that morning from the same computer I always use, so not sure how that is suspicious, but anyway). I had just purchased several Ebay items that I needed to pay for so the timing of all of this was terrible. Well, I log in to my account and am asking to verify the bank account number, choose new security questions, change my password, and verify the phone number on the account. I dutifully go through all of the steps and have no problems until I come to phone number verification. I select that they call me and I enter a pin, which I did and received a confirmation during the call that the pin was accepted. I logged out of my account and logged back in with the new password and to my surprise, the account is limited. I cannot make payments. I go to the resolution center and there is a message that because my phone number cannot be matched through public searches to my address, my account is limited for 5 to 7 days until they send me a letter. Once I get the letter, then I can have access to my account again. Well, PayPal, OF COURSE you cannot Google my phone number and match it to my address because it is not a home phone number. We got rid of that years ago. We are on a family plan cell phone plan with another family and the billing address is their address so that's not going to match either. You had no problem taking that phone number when I signed up a couple of years ago and have not changed the number since then, so why now is it a problem? And why is it any of your business? That does not protect my security. All you have done is create a HUGE inconvenience for me because I had to call your customer service phone number (which is not readily available on your site) and site on hold for 20 minutes to explain a situation that is none of your business to a customer service rep. I was also warned that this could happen again unless I use a number that can be traced to my address. PayPal, this is a HUGE fail on the side of customer service. I wasted an hour and a half of my life trying to fix some imaginary problem that you created. I will be filing a report with RipOffReport.com this afternoon, so other users are aware of your ridiculous tactics.
