After many hassle free years using PP I got my first chargeback and it’s not going well.
I sold something on eBay for £220 and 2 months later get a message saying that it was an unauthorised transaction and a chargeback had been initiated.
The funds were held and I was informed no further action was required as tracking information was available and if any other information was required PayPal would ask for it.
10 days later I receive another email saying that the address couldn’t be verified and the funds had been released to the buyer.
I have the original receipt showing the seller protection address that I sent to and also the tracking information shows that it was received but as It was never requested by PayPal as they said they didn’t need or request any further information I didn’t send them and foolishly thought everything would be OK.....not so, I’ve now lost the funds the item I sold and got a £14 charge for the chargeback to be processed.
So I’m not sure how seller protection is of any benefit even though I followed procedure to the letter. I sometimes have some high value transactions go through my account and this has really give me cause for concern.
Sellers should be aware that even though it says seller protection that you are not necessarily guaranteed a favourable outcome.
