I had the same question. Thanks! This is what is discouraging me from donating: not only do I get letters begging me to donate more more more, but I know some organizations actually sell or give your personal info (name/address, ?) to other non-profits. I made a donation to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières and then was deluged with many donation requests for other causes. Until I can find a way to donate without the burden of the harrassing mail, I just won't. One thing that mostly worked was to use a condition on the donation form, such as: === === === By accepting this donation, the ___ organization is agreeing to refrain from sending ___ ,The Donor, ANY postal mail whatsoever, including and not limited to: donation reminders, newsletters, surveys and recepits. The donor's name and address will not be traded, sold, or shared with any other organization. If these terms are broken, the donor can and WILL demand the full donation amount immediately returned. === === === I don't wish the companies to incur any additional costs and this definitely includes to postage and printing costs of materials to me and like individuals who will actually be discouraged from donating with use of pestering. With more people utilizing paperless billing and fewer pieces of paper mail, I hope organizations would allow for such an opt-out in their donation forms. PayPal will soon fill in this niche when they realize they could do more for the world community and encourage people to use their system more often by allowing Anonymous Donations.
