I had this same thing happen to me this evening. I reacted in the same manner. I changed my password and activated 2-factor authentication. However, I am unable to remove my old phone number. It populated as a home number. I have no option to remove it and if I try to enter my primary mobile number, it tells me that phone number is already on my account. I really don't like the fact that some stranger's phone number is now linked to my account through an action that I did not perform. I've been a member since 2001 but I'm tempted to leave this platform. This is crazy to say the least. A big failure by PayPal.
