I know your issue was back in 2020. But I was looking for an answer to another question I had and came across your post. In the future, if you get an email that claims that you owe money or were charged something that you do not recognize look at the email address. In the case of PayPal, the email address will always have PayPal after the @ symbol. If it looks like a PayPal (or your bank's) email address a trick is to hover over the email address or link/URL in the email with your mouse pointer, then look in the bottom left of the screen, and you'll see the actual email or URL address. For example, I received an email from "Speedway Armory LLC" which is an actual company, but this was a phishing attempt as when I looked at the email it came from it was from a [removed] and was a gmail email address which is not an official email address of that company, nor is it from PayPal. Another example, I received an email that looked like it came from my credit card company that said I needed to login to change my password due to a security breach, when I hovered over the link that was provided the URL actually had the word "trojan" in it which indicated it would download a trojan virus to my computer. Hope this helps anyone that reads this.
