I did one of those 6 months with no interest deals, and consistently paid much more than the balance due with no interest. I paid the total remaining balance on the 17th of July, which is my normal due date, and went on to find that they had put a $40 "late fee" on the 15th. So instead of a zero balance I supposedly owe them $40, and of course, no matter what I do I cannot contact them. Then I found out that they are Synchrony. I put in a furnace, and had a $14,000 line. Then I immediately received an over limit notice because they slapped on a $29 fee. I asked why they didn't simply call me, because I didn't want it on my credit report. I got it resolved, but it just shows how sloppy they are. Synchrony has lots of consumer complaints. I think these guys think I will just give them the $40, but I am going to file a complaint with the state. In Illinois, these things are handled promptly. I would just close my account, but I have a large available line with these guys, and closing it would hurt my credit rating. Any guidance? Whatever happens, I am complaining to the state.
