I wrote this just to share my experience using PayPal, I know they won't change their unfair system--because that's how they took your money for business. I lent a small amount of money (USD 13.50) for my friend in Philippines. The currency exchange rate was so low, that I realized she sent back the money more than she owed me so that I received the same amount of USD 13.50. She got PHP 621.88, and she sent back PHP 1,000.14 (almost double from what she had received!)--with the same USD 13.50. That's the first. ---- Then, I withdrew it to my bank account in Indonesia, because I saw that the transfer fee was less than withdraw it to credit card (IDR 16K vs IDR 46K). PayPal needed 2 days to transfer it--I withdrew it on July 7th, 2021 and two days later I received an e-mail telling that my ACH withdrawal was declined. When I checked my balance, it's deducted from USD 13.50 to USD 10.04. I looked at the transaction details, it showed me that they took an IDR 50K fee. So after my balance was deducted IDR 16K for transfer to bank account, it was deducted again for IDR 50K for the refund because the withdrawal was failed. That's the second. ---- I contacted PayPal Support on Twitter, then the response got me disappointed further. They couldn't do anything and I was told to "make sure to transfer the funds where you'll not face an issue in receiving money". I mean, what the heck... as if I knew I would face an issue in receiving money? If I knew I would face the issue, I would not sent it! That's not even a logical response to answer the complaint. That's the third. ---- The CS officer also told that if the transaction is declined, I will not be charged for any fees. The difference on balance could happen when the transfer and declination are on different dates, resulting the currency exchange rate difference. Mmmkay, but that didn't answer the IDR 50K fee. It doesn't make sense that the exchange rate is different IDR 50K in just two days, that will be an enormous inflation! I told he/she that it wasn't the currency rate, but admin fee. He/she insisted no admin fees and requested me to screenshot where it said "admin fee". I sent it and later he/she told me that's a fee when a withdrawal is attempted by a user and failed because of incorrect bank information provided. REALLY? You cut IDR 50K because of the failed withdrawal? How could that make any sense, PayPal? Please, recall this system. That's the fourth... ...and okay, I'm done with this. The fee is even bigger than the transfer fee to bank account (IDR 50K vs IDR 16K). The system is no different than extortion. They took IDR 65K from my balance (IDR 16K + 50K) for what? FOR A DECLINED WITHDRAWAL. Even if later I try to withdraw again and successful, my balance will deducted again for IDR 16K.. leaving me receive only 60% of the amount I planned to get. IDR 65K + 16K = IDR 81K... It's like the cost of 4 times eating for me, moreover in this pandemic. ---- Here's the calculation of my loss because of the declined withdrawal on PayPal: I would like to transfer IDR 189,235 (USD 13.50) Deduction IDR 16K for transfer fee to my bank account = IDR 173,235 The withdrawal was declined, they only refunded IDR 173,235 (the transfer fee wasn't refunded) Deduction again IDR 50K for the failed withdrawal fee (which is a non-sense reason) = IDR 123,235 TOTAL LOSS = IDR 65K If I withdraw it again and successful: IDR 123,235 - IDR 16K (transfer fee) = IDR 117,235 TOTAL LOSS = IDR 81K If it failed again, I would have nothing to withdraw 😂 Crazy inhuman system for the poor people who wanted to help each other 😂 I just wanted to help my friend abroad but me and her were extorted by this PayPal system. How could PayPal take advantage from a declined withdrawal?!
