I made a purchase that went through automatically, and therefore was withdrawn from the wrong payment method within Paypal. I tried to contact Paypal immediately, but only the messaging option was available and I couldn't reach an actual person. The next day when I did reach them, I was told that I had set up an agreement with said vendor, so there was nothing that could be done. When I went into my Paypal settings, I was surprised to find multiple vendors set up this way, most of whom I had simply made a one-time purchase from. I am an accountant, and somewhat skeptical about the Paypal service, and I can tell you that I am meticulous with my online purchases right down to screen shots in many cases. I have reviewed the emailed confirmations that I received from the vendors and from Paypal for all of these purchases. None of them include any indication that I've authorized anything beyond the single purchase. I am actually considering processing a dummy transaction just to test how this is happening. I would expect Paypal to protect me from such unscrupulous practices in the same way that my bank would. This would absolutely never happen on a credit card transaction. Instead, they refuse to address it. I opened a case, and they closed it, citing my agreement with the vendor. I understand that they are obligated to provide me with a copy of what I purportedly approved, as well as proof of that I approved it. How do I even pursue this when I'm not being given any contact information, and I'm being completely shut down? Does anyone have actual contact information, or experience pursuing something like this? It's absurd that they're wasting my time on something that could so easily be corrected administratively. I'm now afraid to buy anything on Paypal because I don't trust that I'll be able to review the transaction first, and I don't trust that Paypal will provide a resolution if things go sideways. I would have expected more from a company like this.
