So I was scammed today on a Facebook buying and selling group. I was trying to jump on it quickly as I've been looking for a patio set and this one was really nice for $75. The seller wrote in the description that she'd accept venmo or cashapp. I told her I would use Facebook pay with paypal, being that I knew paypal would back me up if there was some fraudulent stuff going on. She said that's fine, send the money. I told her I'd send it when I arrived. So I found the address, sent the money, messaged her that it was done. She said she wasn't home so just go get the furniture. Turns out, it wasn't even her house and the owners were dumbfounded. They of course had no patio set to sell and I was out $75. Paypal has no live people to talk to right now and the messaging center has no one either. I contacted my bank and they froze the account from use by paypal for now, but is this really something that Paypal can't resolve? I did submit a claim, and after a half hour fumbling around on their clunky website I just submitted it as an unauthorized transaction. They immediately responded, denying my claim stating that it WAS in fact authorized and now I cannot resubmit for another reason. Any advice other than stop being so gullible? I just want my $75 back!
