Good morning. I am sure that PayPal will not answer this but am asking the community for some information. I recently had some money refunded to us from a company based in the UK (we went on vacation there over the summer, used the company to send items back to us that we couldn't carry, and there were issues with the service - damage to box, took 3 months for package to arrive when it was sent 3-5 day shipping). So company refunded the cost of shipping - £288 and paid the £2.99 fee (total sent was £290.99 as stated by PayPal customer service). Amount in dollars came in lower than I expected at $352.76. When I questioned the PayPal customer service rep about this they told me that the payment of "$373.08 (£290.99 GBP) was sent" and then they said "the currency conversion was reduced the amount to $356.42 from -£290.99 GBP along with payment fee of $3.66". My question is - PayPal got the £2.99 from the company that sent the refund. The amount sent was $373.08 according to PayPal customer service rep but then they reduced it to $352.42 and then knocked off another $3.66 as payment fee. Why? That doesn't make any sense - they got paid the fee twice and reduce the amount an arbitrary amount. Their really poor exchange rate is what makes them money I would think and then they reduce the amount even more? Has anyone else had this problem in the past? Were you able to get it resolved? And before anyone asks, I would have much rather the company in the UK put it back on my credit card but they said they couldn't (or maybe wouldn't) so this was the only option available according to them. Thank you in advance for any assistance.
