Reward points for credit cards by paying through PayPal

I recently got a new Venture X credit card. I want to receive the intro bonus by paying my landlord my monthly rent, which is done through PayPal. Capital One customer service said rewards will be earned as long as PayPal does not run the card payment as a cash advance. If anyone has any experience with using PayPal while also receiving reward points on their credit cards (Capital One, AMEX), please let me know. I would like to know if it is even possible.

 

PS. I also plan on getting an AMEX card in the near future and would like to do this same method in order to get the intro bonus.
