Hi everyone,
The Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2) is a new EU directive regulating payment services in the European Economic Area. This directive requires that we put in place, new measures that impact how you access your account and pay with PayPal.
One such measure is the introduction of two-factor authentication for electronic payments, known as 'Strong Customer Authentication' (SCA). For electronic payments in Europe, this extra security is being implemented to help keep online card purchases more secure and prevent fraud. From time to time you may also be asked to verify your identity with your bank, much like when you add a new card to your PayPal account.
In most instances, you'll continue to login or pay with PayPal by entering your email address and your PayPal password, as usual. However, we may sometimes ask you to enter a one-time passcode which we'll send via SMS to the phone number you've registered with us. It’s important that you keep your phone details up to date in your PayPal account Profile to ensure this works correctly.
