HORRIBLE IDEA TO HOLD FUNDS FOR 21 DAYS!!!

Holding funds from sellers until the buyer leaves feedback is the worst idea EVER! Since when does Paypal become an authority on buyer satisfaction?? A smooth transaction is all that I wanted from Paypal. If they are going to hold funds, then they should make it very clear BEFORE you use them!  Keeping my money in their account for 21 days is a HUGE disadvantage of using Paypal. Stick to transferring funds, not trying to be a satisfaction authority!

This is to eco123eco:

Look, whether your opinion takes up 20 pages or 1 sentence your opinion is just as important as everyone elses! You obviously are affected by PP's and eBay's idiotic foolishness just like everybody else! This is affecting people's livelyhood whether we buy or sell. They're completely taking all the fun out of doing stuff online.

AS FOR BUYERS. MAYBE NONE OF YOU HAVE BEEN BUYERS.  I HAVE BEEN STUCK TO THE TUNE OF OVER $100.00 FOR ITEMS THAT WERE NOT RECIEVED AS LISTED.  INSTEAD OF ALUMINUM, THE ITEMS WERE PLASTIC.  ANOTHER ITEM I E MAILED THE SELLER TO MAKE SURE THE PRODUCT WAS WHAT I NEEDED FOR MY INTENDED USE.  $52 LATER, I REC'D ITEMS THAT I COULD NOT USE. HE WOULD TAKE THEM BACK, BUT BOTH SHIPPING CHARGES WOULD BARE ON ME TO THE TUNE OF $30.00, MAKING THE ITEM COST WITH SHIPPING $67.00. WORTH THE WORK OF SENDING BACK, NO.  I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO TALK TO LIVE PEOPLE AT PAYPAL & EBAY YESTERDAY.I PAID FOR 2 ITEMS ON DEC. 8TH & HAVE NOT REC'D THEM.  I FILED A DESPUTE, THEN A CLAIM.  PAYPAL CONTINI\UED TO ADVISE ME TO WORK IT OUT WITH THE SELLER IN CHINA.  I HAVE TRIED NUMEROUS  & REC NO ANSWER. THE LIVE PERSON AT PAYPAL,  FILED THE CLAIM FOR ME YESTERDAY & FORWARDED ME TO A PERSON AT EBAY.  IF YOU CALL WE ONLY GET VOICE MAIL. HE ASSURED ME THAT HE WOULD PERSONALLY LOOK INTO IT.  THE WOMAN IS STILL SELLING THE SAME ITEMS ON EBAY. THAT'S $14 ADDED TO THE OVER $100 I'VE PAID OUT.  THEY SAID 10 DAYS,SO I WILL WAIT THAT LONG TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS.  IF NOTHING HAPPENS I WILL CALL MY BANK & PUT THE ABOUNT INTO COLLECTION AGAINST PAYPAL.

Diann,

I can certainly sympathize with you.  A couple of years ago, my husband and I sent $2800 for an antique vase.  Guess what?  The vase never came, Paypal never did a thing, and the seller became unregistered.  This was turned over to several Federal entities, but no one ever found the guy - he never existed.  Shortly after that, we purchased another antique vase for over $450.  Again, no vase, no refund, no nothing.  Paypal was of no help at all.  So, we lost quite a substantial amount as buyers....As sellers, we all continue to lose.  We lose money from the fees they charge, we lose customers because we don't want to send items out until the money is in our hands, and we lose patience.

As I said before, from now on, I will not send any item out until the money is in MY hands.  Although I haven't sold recently, I would like  to begin again to make some extra money.  But, as others have said, there will be a disclaimer...I will NOT release any item until I have been paid. So, buyers will have a choice....27 days with Paypal or 2 - 3 days with a check.  Their choice, not mine.

TERRIBLE. EBAY & PAYPAL RIP OFF THE SELLERS & THE BUYERS. THEY ARE NOT PICKY WHERE THEY GET THEIR MONEY FROM. I WOULD NEVER SEND A COSTLY ITEM OUT UNTIL I HAD THE MONEY IN MY HANDS.  I LEARNED THAT THE HARD WAY.  I USED TO DESIGN FIGURE SKATING DRESSES.  GOT AN ORDER FOR 13 DRILL TEAM DRESSES. 1/2 WAY THRU THE MAKING, THE COACH FOUND THEM FROM SOMEONE ELSE FOR $2 PER DRESS LESS.  SO, THERE I SAT WITH THE COST OF FABRIC & WASTED TIME, & 13 IDENTICAL DRESSES.

HI,

YOU ARE CORRECT.  I REC'D AN EMAIL FROM PAYPAL TODAY.  MY ACCOUNT HAS BEEN ISSUED A CREDIT FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT THE UNRECEIVED MERCHANDISE COST.

ONLY TO TOOK 2 MONTHS.  IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO FIND WHETHER THAT WOMAN IS STILL SELLING ON EBAY.  I WILL CHECK THAT OUT LATER TONIGHT.

Again thanks and lets hope this keeps the scams, porn and drugs out of our forum and we can make www.letssuepaypal a safe place to post and discuss options if we are to form a class action suit!

I see what the problem is. I'm a webmaster and I've ran those types of forums before. He's got his CAPTCHA disabled. CAPTCHA  is what stops the automatic spam from being posted. Nearly 100% of the time, spam posted on message boards and forums is generated by something called bots. There is no acutal human posting the messages. Tell him to enable the CAPTCHA on the forum and to disable nonregistered people from posting. It will stop all that spam.

This is crazy.  I am getting **bleep**ed and I have a perfect score AND over 170 sales.  The feedback system works to protect buyers, but buyers, you have to use some common sense.  You can sell ONE ITEM get ONE FEEDBACK. and you have a score of 100%.  The sellers who have the high numbers behind their user names and the colored stars after that like myself.  They are the ones out here doing honest business.  These are the ones who would protect their ratings after working so hard to build them.  And you do have to work hard at customer service to build a rating.  Ship timely, charge reasonable shipping rates, provide clear honest listings.  And these are all monitored and displayed for the buyer to use to make informed choices on sellers.  But buyers c'mon!  You deserve some of the blame if you don't make a couple clicks and make sure your seller has had many reputable sales!  ebay provides a page to check the feedback others have left and also the type of items sold.  You have to choose a seller just as you would walking into any store!!!!!!!  It's not fair to punish all for the sake of a few!

I have just set up an account for my store at Winkelf.com which handles handmade and other items...check it out...they also list alternatives to paypal for payment....and it costs nothing to list and only 2.5% when sale is made....it's a drag to have to start up a new store but their pricing is a lot less than ebay:  $5.00/mth instead of $14.95!....and they have lots of other programs....thank you to the person that brought this site to my attention...if I hadn't checked out this post area I never would have known what my alternatives were....I have yet to shut down my ebay store but am waiting for all my listings to end....I just can't make a profit with fees charged by them and paypal....Smiley Indifferent
