How do I link my Australian bank account to my UK PayPal account

PayPal UK doesn't find my Australian bank account, even if I input the sort code and account number, as it doesn't recognise their number format.  What do I need to do so I can put funds direct from Australia into my UK PayPal account?

PayPal accounts are country specific.

Open a PayPal AU account, link the AU bank account to it. Send money as friends and family in GBP from PayPal AU account, selecting the AU bank account as funding source, to the PayPal UK account.

Forex and PayPal currency conversion fees may apply on the PayPal transaction from PayPal to PayPal.

Thanks.  Whenever I try to go to PayPal Australia my browser goes to PayPal UK though.
