why did my buyer have to pay in GBP?

I am in Australia.

My paypal has been set up to receive USD and GBP.

I had a customer try to pay in USD and they couldnt at their end and they were forced to pay in GBP (they live in the UK).

Although my account accepts GBP, it didnt accept the payment in GBP and automatically turned it into AUD.

Why did it do this???? If they pay in GBP I should accept the money in GBP.

Hello @sjpals

Welcome back to the PayPal Community!

I'm sorry to hear that your buyer's payment wasn't sent in the preferred currency and then converted after you received it. I recommend checking your payment receiving preferences by following the instructions on our Help Center here. Depending on how your preferences are set, it could cause you to receive the payment differently or convert them after you've received them. After that, I'd explore how they sent the payment. Did they initiate the payment, or did you send a money request or invoice? If you sent a money request or invoice, that might have required them to pay in one specific currency.

To help explore this further and look into other potential troubleshooting options, please do not hesitate to reach out to Customer Support here

I hope you're able to get to the bottom of this!
