set up preferred account for payments, but paypal keeps using my bank account for the payments

Hello,

A few days ago, I changed my 'preferred payment' method on my PayPal account to go to a new card I just received & added to my payment list.  After making sure my new card was listed as 'preferred', I did some online Christmas shopping for my grandkids & made a couple of purchases for myself. Imagine my surprise when I went to make a withdrawl at my bank & noticed my balance was in the negative. I went back home & checked my PayPal account activity & saw that instead of using my 'preferred payment' method (which was set to my new cc & specifically verified BEFORE checking out), PayPal used my bank account for the payments. WHY?!  This COMPLETELY **bleep** up my bank account, as well as accrued extra charges for the overdrafts that should've NEVER happened.  <sarc> Thank you so very much! So now, what do I do? Because I'm sure I'm not going to get a damned thing back from PayPal.

Same here - last three transactions I have made have done this. In each case it would have been a split payment using Paypal funds first then making up the difference which is something I have used successfully for many years. Until about two months ago when something changed and now they take it directly from my linked bank account. Fine I have the money in that account but I have funds on my paypal I want to use first.

I have a credit card set up as preferred payment method and for the last couple of months it keeps using my USD PayPal balance to pay for things in Canadian dollars. So frustrating it's not using the payment method that is selected. I specifically ask it to use my credit card and NOT my PayPal balance but it just uses the balance anyway. Something is messed with PayPal. Customer support was useless, kept telling me how to set my preferred payment method after I explained I already did that. Stupid.
