refunded payment still pending in bank

Context: I recently got hit with a hack on a platform connected to my paypal. Through this platform, they requested a large sum of money. Though the situation on the platform has since been resolved, and the platform has issued a refund, the original payment has since still been queued by paypal with my bank.

My main question is thusly: Will paypal now take that money, and then return it, or will the transaction that is queued with my bank still be canceled before it is completed?

Pending refunds can only happen for two reasons.

1. The seller has issued a refund from their bank account which takes time to process.

2. You funded the payment to the seller using bank transfer. What PayPal do here is credit the recipient on your behalf (so there is no delay in despatching your item). Then if you receive a refund in the meantime they are unable to issue this until the original bank transfer completes.

From what I can tell I'm in the 2nd situation. I suppose I'll have to leave some of my savings in my main account to "take the hit", then, so the payment and refund can both process.
