Why do they hold your money for 72 hours but it's instant when you send it to a friend?

Why do they hold your money for 72 hours when you are cashing out to your own debit card but if you are sending money to a friend it's instant?

Welcome to PayPal Community! I understand that you may be having trouble with our transfer options. Generally, all transfer options can differ on country and eligible cards. However, the timeframe is not something we can control. Some financial institutions can offer instant as an option and others may take 3-5 business days to complete. I hope this helps!
