We're reviewing the payment

We have had a PayPal account for many years, and just a few months ago we started getting emails saying a customer has made a payment and "we are reviewing the payment"

Is there a way to find out why the payment is being reviewed? or is this a generic email?

This is a generic mail because when someone made payment, paypal take time to confirm it because it's a international payment gateway. Sometimes it reviewed in 3 days or sometimes it take more.
