Should I really write VOID on my check?

My Husband just received a VERY IMPORTANT CHECK and we just did the mobile check cashing. It says the check was approved, but they want us to WRITE "VOID" ACROSS THE CHECK. SOUNDS FISHY... HELPPPPP.

How long did it take for his check to get approved? Then were you guys able to access funds? Having issues
